Hoof Trimming

Hoof Trimming can be a daunting experience, OR it can be a quick job, done every 6-12 weeks (depending on the type of land the goats run on).
Once you have a routine, and the right equipment it doesn't take long at all.

We use Rose secateurs from Bunnings, which are great for Miniature goat hooves, as some of the bigger hoof snips are just too big and bulky to move around a little hoof.
With young kids, We use even small secateurs. making it even easier.

It is much easier to cut hooves when the ground is wet, as this makes to hoof softer.
Milking stands do make it easier to trim hooves. But if you have a helper, it can be done in the paddock or pen.
Giving the goats something to eat will make them be more cooperative.
Just like dogs that go to the groomers regularly, Goats get used to it. and some even like the attention (food) that they receive.

Below is a diagram I found on the internet (Thank you Countrysidenetwork).

This shows how even a beginner can trim quite easily.
